Privacy Policy

Effective 29 October 2026

This privacy policy explains what personal information Pleny, Inc. collects when you use Pleny, the apps and the website at pleny.com, what we do with it, who can see it and the choices you have. Pleny is responsible for this information.

1. About this policy

Pleny, Inc. (“Pleny”, “we” or “us”) is a Delaware corporation whose mailing address is 9450 Southwest Gemini Drive PMB 38965, Beaverton, Oregon 97008-7105, United States. This policy covers everyone who uses Pleny's apps and website, with or without an account. Our terms of service are at pleny.com/terms-of-service, and our use of cookies is explained at pleny.com/cookies-policy.

Pleny Business, the portal at business.pleny.com where brand managers run brands' pages, has its own privacy policy, at business.pleny.com/legal/privacy.

2. What we collect

Your account. When you sign in with Google, Facebook or Apple, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from that account, and its identifier. When you set up and edit your profile, you give us your first and last name, username, photos, country, city and the cuisines you like and, if you choose to, a bio, your birth date, your gender and a mobile number, which we verify with a code sent by text message. We also keep your settings, such as your language, translation and privacy choices.

What you post and do. Your posts, shares, moments, stories and highlights, comments, replies, reactions, mentions and hashtags; the brands, products, offers and places you tag (a story's place sticker keeps the place's address and coordinates); the people and brands you follow, block or mute; your collections; your reports; and when you tap a brand's phone number, WhatsApp or website.

How you use Pleny. What you view and watch, the profiles you visit, what you search for, what your feed showed you, and when you were last active.

Your contacts, if you choose to find friends. If you allow it, the app uploads the names, phone numbers, email addresses and pictures in your phone's address book, or your Google contacts or Facebook friends, so that we can show you who is on Pleny, tell you when a contact joins and let you invite them by email.

Your location. If you allow it, the app uses your device's precise location to show restaurants, brands and offers near you and to find your nearest city; we use it for that request and do not store it with your account. When you sign in, we derive an approximate location from your network (IP) address (city, region, postal code, time zone and internet provider) and keep it with your account, together with the country and city you choose.

Your conversations with Pleny. What you ask the AI Foodie Assistant and its answers, and your support conversations, including pictures, files and voice notes, their transcripts, and the ratings you give.

Pleny Pro. If you subscribe, the App Store or Google Play tells us, through RevenueCat, which plan you have, its price, dates, status and transaction identifiers. The store takes the payment: we never receive your card details.

Your device. Its identifier and model, its operating system, the app's version, its push-notification token, when you signed in and out, and crash reports and logs.

On pleny.com. The cookies and browser storage described in the cookies policy, and, if you use the support chat on the website without signing in, an identifier of your browser and your messages.

From other people. Others may mention or tag you, post content that shows you, or upload contacts that include your name, number or email address.

3. How we use it

  • To provide Pleny: your account and profile, posting, sharing, following, notifications, and the restaurants and offers near you.
  • To personalize what you see: your feed, recommended brands and foodies, similar posts and what is trending, based on whom you follow, what you engage with and view, the cuisines you like, and your country and city.
  • To translate posts, comments and profiles into your language, through Google Cloud Translation, when you tap Translate or turn on automatic translation. We detect the language of a text on our own servers.
  • To answer you with AI: the AI Foodie Assistant and the support assistant answer with AI models, using what you ask, your country and city, and content on Pleny.
  • To keep Pleny safe: we check the text of posts, comments, replies, stories and profile fields against a list of banned words and with AI models, and our staff review reports. Content that breaks the community rules may be refused or hidden, and a profile change reverted; we tell you when that happens. To stop removed accounts from coming back, we keep a record of the device, email address and mobile number of an account we removed.
  • To support you, and to keep a record of what was agreed.
  • To send you messages: about your account and activity, by push notification and in the app; and about Pleny, brands and offers, by push notification, email and text message, chosen by your activity, language, device, gender, age and location. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link; you can stop push notifications in your device's settings, and text messages by writing to us.
  • To show ads in the free version of the apps, through Google AdMob and Klipy, which may use information about your device, and its advertising identifier where you allow it, to show and measure ads. Pleny Pro has no ads.
  • To understand how Pleny is used and to fix and improve it, with our own product analytics and error reports.
  • To comply with the law, and to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

Where the law requires a legal basis, we rely on performing our agreement with you (to provide Pleny), on our legitimate interests in running a safe, useful and financially sustainable service (for personalization, safety, analytics and ads), on our legal obligations and, where we ask for it, on your consent (for example for your contacts and your device's location, which you can withdraw in your device's settings).

Automated moderation can hide what you posted or revert a change to your profile without a person looking at it first. If you think it got it wrong, contact us through the support chat or at hello@pleny.com, and a person will review it.

4. What others can see

Pleny is public, and has no private accounts. Your name, username, photos, bio, cuisines, the numbers of your followers and posts, and what you post, share, comment and react can be seen by anyone, including people without a Pleny account: in the apps, on pleny.com and through share links. Search engines may find your profile, posts and moments. Stories are shown for 24 hours, and then only in the highlights you choose.

Your email address, mobile number, birth date, gender, contacts, location (except where you post it) and private collections are not shown to others.

When you visit someone's profile, we record the visit and tell them that someone visited; Pleny Pro members can see who. Pleny Pro members can also choose to hide who they are, fully or partly, when they visit.

Brands see your public content and reactions, and the posts that are about them. Their teams can reply to you as the brand, hide your content from their own page and report it to us. They do not see your contact details.

Other users can share and repost your public content through Pleny's features, and the terms of service allow brands to do the same. Pleny always shows you as the original author.

5. Who we share it with

Service providers that process information for us under contract, only for the services they provide to us:

  • Hosting and storage: Hetzner, whose data centres in Germany run our servers and databases; Amazon Web Services, which keeps our backups and sends our emails and some text messages; and Cloudflare, which delivers pleny.com and stores photos and videos.
  • Messages: Cequens and Amazon Web Services for text messages, and Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging for push notifications.
  • AI and translation: Google Cloud Translation; Ollama, whose AI models answer the assistants and check content; OpenAI, which turns text into the numbers our search compares; ElevenLabs, which transcribes support voice notes; TypeSafe, which tells the support assistant when you want a person; and LangChain, whose LangSmith service records the AI requests so that we can monitor them.
  • Sign-in, places and location: Google, Facebook and Apple when you sign in with them; Google Places for the places you tag; and IPinfo, which finds the approximate location of an IP address.
  • Subscriptions: RevenueCat, Apple and Google.
  • Ads: Google AdMob and Klipy, in the free version of the apps. Klipy also provides GIFs and stickers.
  • Monitoring and analytics: Datadog for logs, and Google's Firebase Crashlytics for crash reports. Our product analytics and error tracking run on our own servers.
  • Email marketing: Mailchimp, for some of our emails.
  • Meta: the apps include the Facebook SDK, for Facebook sign-in and sharing, which can send Meta information about how the app is used.

Others, where needed: authorities and others when the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, brands, Pleny or the public; and a buyer or successor if Pleny's business is merged, sold or reorganized, subject to this policy.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not give brands your contact details or anything else that is not public on Pleny.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your account and what you post for as long as your account exists, unless you delete them sooner.

When you delete your account, your profile, what you posted (posts, shares, comments, replies, reactions, moments and stories) and the people and brands you follow are removed from Pleny at once, as pleny.com/data-deletion explains. 14 days later, these records leave our live database and are moved to a separate archive of deleted records, which has no fixed deletion date. The photos and videos you uploaded stay in our media storage.

Some information is not deleted with your account: the contacts you uploaded, your collections, your conversations with the AI Foodie Assistant and with our support, your searches, and your viewing and activity history. We also keep the record of an account we removed for breaking our rules, which stops it coming back, and what the law requires us to keep. You can ask us to delete any of this by writing to hello@pleny.com.

Our database backups are kept for 90 days. Some information is deleted sooner: your feed history after two weeks, detailed activity events after 90 days, notifications after at most a year, and drafts 30 days after you last changed them.

7. Security

We protect your information with measures such as encryption in transit, access for our staff limited to what their work needs, and monitoring of our systems. No system is completely secure: tell us at hello@pleny.com if you think your account has been misused.

8. International transfers

Pleny, Inc. is based in the United States. Our servers are in Germany, our backups in Ireland, and our service providers process information in the United States and other countries, whose data-protection laws may differ from those where you live. Where the law requires it, we rely on safeguards such as the standard contractual clauses in our providers' data-processing terms.

9. Your choices and rights

In the app you can edit your profile, choose your language and translation settings, decide whether others may post on your profile, block and mute people, delete what you posted, and delete your account. Your device's settings control the app's access to your location, contacts, photos, camera and microphone, and its notifications.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask for a copy of your information, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, including for direct marketing, to receive it in a portable form, and to withdraw a consent you gave. Write to us through the support chat or at hello@pleny.com; we will check that the request is yours and answer within the time the law sets. You will not be treated differently for using these rights. You may also complain to your data-protection authority.

10. Children

You must be at least 13 years old to use Pleny, and Pleny is recommended for people aged 16 and older (see pleny.com/age-suitability). If you are under 18, you need the permission of a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us at hello@pleny.com and we will delete it. Our Child Safety Standards are at pleny.com/child-safety.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The date above shows when the current version took effect, and we will tell you in the app or by email before a significant change takes effect. This policy is published in English, Arabic, French and German; if the versions differ, the English version prevails.
